The British Ladies Society,Q8

Founded in 1993, the British Ladies Society provides British ladies living in Kuwait with the opportunity to meet one another, form lasting friendships and learn more about the culture and customs of Kuwait.  The BLS also invites women from other countries to join the Society through the Associate Membership programme.

Under the patronage of  the wife of the British Ambassador to Kuwait, Mrs Maria Baker, the BLS offers a variety of activities to its members.  The BLS hosts weekly coffee mornings, Mums & Tots sessions, walking and bridge groups, monthly evening dinner meetings, and an active book club.  We organise excursions to places of interest around Kuwait as well as a variety of family-oriented events.   We hold special seasonal festivities such as the annual Christmas bazaar and dinner as well as many  events that vary from year to year.  Past events sponsored by the BLS include a Mothers Day luncheon, a family Easter egg hunt, a fashion show, black tie Balls, and garden tea parties, to name but a few.

In addition, the Society provides its members with valuable resources such as a well-stocked (and very social) library, a Kuwait Information Guide Book complete with maps and a “yellow pages” directory, plus member discounts at popular restaurants, shops and organisations around the country.

More than just a social group, the BLS is also actively involved with charitable causes both in Kuwait and the UK.   Each year the membership nominates and votes for two charities, one in the UK and one in Kuwait, to receive the profits from all the BLS activities throughout the year.
