KISR published book on “Extreme Wind Atlas for Kuwait”

Kuwait is a country with many high rise buildings. In future, many more high rise infrastructures will be built in Kuwait. The high wind speed expected in 50 to 100 years is an essential input for safe and economic design of any tall infrastructures. The wind speed varies with respect to time. Sometime, it is calm and sometime its speed is very high. Kuwait does not have an Atlas of Extreme Wind Speed for the whole country. In general a wind speed of 140 km/hr is used till date for designing high rise structures.

Recently KISR has published a book titled “Extreme Wind Atlas for Kuwait”. This book contains the extreme average wind and gust speed for different return periods, different directions and for 39 different land and sea locations in Kuwait.

The construction and infrastructure development industries in Kuwait can use the knowledge and data from this book while designing high rise buildings, tall towers, chimneys of power plants, bridges and marine structures, where the extreme wind load is one of the governing criteria.

The authors of this book are Dr. S. Neelamani, Ms. L. Al-Awadi, Ms. F. Al-Shatti, Ms. M. Abdulla, Mr. M. Hussain and Ms. A. Al-Othman from Kuwait Institute For Scientific Research and Mr. Essa Ramadan and Dr. Hassan Al-Dashti from Meteorological Department, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Kuwait. Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences has sponsored the research project, which has resulted in the publication of this scientific book.

KISR will organize a book release function in the coming months. KISR will invite the stakeholders for this book release function and for distributing this book as a compliment for their use. Please provide the name, email address and mobile number of the person who will attend this book release function to Dr. S. Neelamani, nsubram@kisr.edu.kw (Mobile 99278411) so that the invitation for the book release function will be sent to you in due course of time. For any details on this book, you can contact Dr. S. Neelamani, Senior Research Scientist in KISR.
