Ali Alghanim & Sons Automotive launches the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo in Kuwait
Ali Alghanim & Sons Automotove, the official BMW Group importer in Kuwait, has launched the all-new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo across their showrooms in Kuwait.
On a global level, the BMW 3 Series continues to be BMW Group’s best-selling model series consistently accounting for more than a quarter of the company’s global sales. In 2012, every fourth BMW sold was a 3 Series. The success story of the BMW 3 Series over the past 37 years has made it the world’s best-selling premium car.
The all-new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo adds an innovative new concept to the already successful 3 Series line-up. It combines a unique combination of a sporty and elegant coupé design with excellent versatility, increase in space and hallmark BMW driving enjoyment.
Inside the cockpit, this slick new model featuring four doors with frameless windows and a coupé-style downward-sloping roofline making it immediately recognisable as a member of the latest generation BMW 3 Series line-up. Generous interior dimensions allow the passengers in every seat to sit back and enjoy an impressive feeling of space and unbeatable freedom of movement significantly more comfortable.
The cocooning nature of the interior, complemented by its design forms, colour scheme and materials, creates a lounge-style ambience which allows passengers to enjoy short trips and long journeys alike in relaxed comfort.
The rear of the all-new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo is highlighted by horizontal surfaces and lines emphasising muscular width and unshakable road holding. Another highlight is the rear active spoiler – the first of its type on a BMW – which automatically extends at speeds over 110 km/h and retracts at speeds under 70 km/h. It can also be manually controlled from the driver side window switch control. When deployed at high speeds, the spoiler increases downforce on the rear axle and ensures perfect stability when driving fast.
Commenting on the launch of the new vehicle, Mr. Yousef Al Qatami, General Manager, Ali Alghanim & Sons Automotive, said: “Combining the perfect blend of practicality, increased space and driving comfort, the all-new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo is an impressive vehicle. Building on the success of the BMW Group’s best selling 3 Series model, we are confident that this model will appeal to our discerning customer base here in Kuwait. The new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo will add to our already impressive BMW portfolio and enable us to expand our BMW product in Kuwait.”
An extensive selection of driver assistance systems and mobility solutions, offered under the BMW ConnectedDrive programme, allows the new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo to set the benchmark in its segment in terms of safety, convenience and in-car infotainment.
The all-New BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo will debut with the 320i engine variant, which features the BMW 2.0-litre four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine generating 135 kW/184 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds. The BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo will also be available with the 328i engine featuring the BMW 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine generating 135 kW/245 hp.
All BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo vehicles from Ali Alghanim & Sons Automotive feature innovative communication features via BMW ConnectedDrive. This includes a host of new BMW Apps including Facebook, Twitter, Web Radio and Wiki Local; all of which can be accessed via an Apple iPhone as well as the all new BMW Remote App which will be compatible on both iPhone and Android platforms.
BMW in Kuwait is the only automobile manufacturer to offer these technological innovations to the Kuwaiti market.

Kuwait marks 51st anniversary of Constitution
Kuwaitis marked yesterday the 51st anniversary of the state’s first Constitution which was endorsed during the reign of Kuwait’s 11th ruler late Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. On Nov 11, 1962, the late Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah promulgated the Constitution for Kuwait to become the first Arab state in the Gulf region to issue a constitution and have a parliament. “We, Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait, desiring to use the means of democratic rule for our dear country; and, having faith in the role of this country in furthering Arab nationalism and the promotion of world peace and human civilization; “And, striving towards a better future in which the country enjoys greater prosperity and higher international standing, and in which also the citizens are provided with more political freedom, equality, and social justice, a future which upholds the traditions inherent in the Arab nation by enhancing the dignity of the individual, safeguarding public interest, and applying consultative rule yet maintaining the unity and stability of the country, and, I having considered Law Number I of 1962 concerning the system of Government during the period of transition; and, upon the resolution of the Constituent Assembly; do hereby approve this Constitution and promulgate it,” the then Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem wrote in the permeable of the constitution. Kuwaitis elected the Constituent Assembly in January 1962, to draft the first constitution of the state which will regulate authorities and freedoms.
The Assembly was chaired by Abdullatif Thunayyan Al-Ghanim, with Dr Ahmad Al-Khateeb as vice chairman. In his inaugural speech to the Constituent Assembly, Sheikh Abdullah Al- Salem called for unity so as to best serve the interests of the country and its people, adding that this assembly would bear the burden of setting the main bases for Kuwait’s future. A five-member committee was formed to oversee this constitution-drafting, including then Interior Minister Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Al-Ghanim, Al- Khateeb, then Justice Minister Homoud Al-Zaid Al-Khalid, and member of the Assembly Saud Abdulaziz Al- Abdulrazzaq. The panel held a total of 23 sessions, the first of which was on March 17, 1962 and the last was on Oct 27, 1962. The draft constitution was presented by Al-Ghanim to Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem on Nov 8, Sheikh Abdullah Al- Salem ratified the constitution on Nov 11.
The first parliamentary elections were held in the country after 72 days of the Constitution ratification, on Jan 23, 1963. The Kuwaiti Constitution is made up of 183 articles divided into five parts: The State and the System of Government; Fundamental Constituents of the Kuwaiti Society; Public Rights and Duties; Powers; and General and Transitional Provisions. On Feb 10, 1980, late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah formed a 35-member committee to amend the constitution. The committee held its first meetings on Feb 19, 1980 with the attendance of late Sheikh Saad Al- Abdullah Al-Sabah. The committee concluded its work on June 22, 1980, after meeting for 18 weeks. During the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, the constitution united all Kuwaitis inside the state and abroad. Kuwaiti leaders gathering in the Saudi city of Jeddah in October 1990 announced their full commitment to the Constitution and loyalty to the legitimate Al-Sabah rulers, which kept Kuwaitis morale high till their country was finally liberated in February 1991. Since the enforcement of the Constitution, Kuwaiti National Assembly held 14 legislative terms and 33 governments were formed. —- KUNA

India, Kuwait discuss energy, investment; ink five pacts
India and Kuwait Friday discussed collaboration in petrochemicals, and Kuwaiti investments in infrastructure in India as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held talks with visiting Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah here.
Both the leaders held extensive talks on trade, energy and investment and also on labour laws after which both sides inked five pacts, including on the transfer of prisoners and cooperation in the field of culture and education.
Noting that Kuwait is the fourth largest supplier of crude oil to India, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said he had discussed "the development of a more strategic partnership in the energy sector between our two countries".
"This can be done through long-term supply contracts on mutually beneficial terms and the establishment of upstream and downstream joint ventures in the petroleum and petrochemical sectors. India has proposed several specific projects for investments by the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation," the prime minister said, adding he was "encouraged" by the response of Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber and hopeful some of the proposals for cooperation could be given concrete shape soon.
The discussion on collaboration in energy comes in the backdrop of Kuwait investing over US$ 100 billion to refurbish its oil sector and in building new refineries, which provides big opportunities for cooperation between the two sides.
The prime minister said India offers attractive investment opportunities for Kuwait in the infrastructure sector. A delegation of the Kuwait Investment Authority is expected to make an early visit to India in this context, he said.
India is hoping to tap the $350 billion Kuwaiti sovereign wealth fund, which is increasing by US$ 25 million every year.
The prime minister also conveyed the keenness of Indian companies to participate in infrastructure projects under Kuwait's Development Plan.
"His Highness has assured me that Indian companies are welcome in Kuwait and that they will continue to enjoy fair and equal opportunities there," the prime minister said.
With over 700,000 Indians working in Kuwait, the prime minister said he had requested the Kuwaiti prime minister "for the continued support of the Kuwaiti leadership to ensure that the full protection of Kuwaiti laws and labour welfare measures is available to them."
Around 5,000 Indian expatriates have been deported so far this year from Kuwait for not possessing proper work documents.
Both sides also shared views on developments in West Asia and the Gulf.
On Syria, both sides "recognize the importance of a peaceful resolution of the Syrian conflict, and hope that the Geneva-II conference will contribute towards this objective", Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said.
Both the leaders discussed security cooperation and agreed that countering radicalism and extremism is a common challenge. They agreed to strengthen cooperation in the area of counter-terrorism through institutionalised dialogue and training.
In his banquet speech, the prime minister said the engagement "is marked by a deep sense of comfort and enduring goodwill between our people".
"Your present visit has added fresh winds to our sails. We value your contribution to the cause of peace in the region, and we look forward to Kuwait's leadership in seeking solutions to the region's many challenges," he said
Visit visa violators will get 2 year ban Kuwait
The General Immigration Department will ban foreigners, who violate the period and conditions for visit visa, from entering the country for two years; while their sponsors will lose the sponsorship right for three months up to one year, local dailies reported. Foreigners on visit visas will be blacklisted for two years if proven they have violated the period and conditions for obtaining such visas.
According to new rule, they will not be able to acquire any type of visa within the specified period. The sponsors of those who violated the period and conditions for obtaining visit visas will not be allowed to sponsor anyone for three months if the violation is committed for the first time; six months for the second time and up to one year if the violation is repeated. Sources also clarified that expatriates who hold visas under articles 17 and 18 are allowed to sponsor their relatives to visit Kuwait provided their salary is KD 250 and above; while those under articles 19 and 24 are exempted from the salary condition.
Sources added the abovementioned expatriates can sponsor only their first-degree relatives like husbands, wives, children, parents, siblings and parents-in-law. Sources said the tourist visa is valid for 90 days and the commercial visit visa is valid for 60 days; indicating there is no ban imposed on any nationality.
